Geneva Fête de la musique, 2011

The UN Music Club was well represented at the Geneva Fête de la musique, 2011, with performances by the UN World Music Project and the
UN Flute & Strings Ensemble on Sunday, 19 June. This was the first time that any of the Club's groups
participated in this event which is held annually and is sponsored by the City of Geneva.
The Flute & Strings Ensemble performed before an enthusiastic audience
in the afternoon in the courtyard of the Société de Lecture. The programme, which lasted nearly one
hour, included trios by Joseph Haydn, W.A. Mozart, Carl Stamitz and Georg Telemann.
Although the weekend festival began with cool, rainy weather, by Sunday the weather had cleared
and the afternoon sunshine was greatly appreciated by both the performers and the audiences at the outdoor
concerts.
The Club members who participated in the event were (from left to right in
photo):
Kiyodhi Adachi, violin
Jay Wormus, flute
Janet Weiler, double bass
Jan Knoerich, cello
Oliver Murray, flute
Here is a short clip from the concert:

The UN World Music Project performed on Sunday evening in the Parc des Bastions. Although this
was one of the last concerts on the festival programme, a large audience was present, eagerly awaiting the WMP's
performance.
For its one-hour programme the WMP had prepared an eclectic mix of songs from around the world,
with styles reflecting the diversity of the United Nations, including Arabic, Eastern European, Caribbean, Latin
American, and jazz.
The Club members and guest musicians participating in the event were:
Mimi Ameti, Naima Ezana - vocals
Mark Rapp, Moise Okenda - trumpet
Patrice Piguet, Megumi Furubayashi, Alex Ezana - saxophone
Heechae Woo - guitar
Jay Wormus - vocals & guitar
