International Day of Peace, 2009

The UN Flute & Strings Quartet at the International Day of Peace

As in previous years, the UN Music Club was again invited to participate in the programme for the International Day of Peace, held this year on Friday, 18 September, in the Council Chamber at the Palais des Nations. The musical contribution to this year’s programme was provided by the Club’s Flute & Strings Quartet:

Jay Wormus – flute
Ursula Hermelink – violin
Giulia Benvenuti – viola
Jan Knoerich – cello

The Quartet opened the ceremony with a performance of the Andante movement of Mozart’s quartet in G major. Following the statements by the distinguished panel of speakers, the quartet closed the meeting with the Allegretto movement from the Quartet in F major by Johann Christian Friedrich Bach.

The Quartet was formed in April 2009 and this event was its first performance. The members of the Flute & Strings Quartet and look forward to participating in other events within the international community.
