International Women's Day, 2011

The United Nations Choir was invited to participate in the celebration of International Women’s
Day held at the World Health Organization on March 8, 2011. The Choir performed its diverse cultural program
"Songs of the World" with some classical touch: in addition to traditional songs from England, France,
Indonesia, Israel, the Philippines, Thailand, and Ukraine, Ombra mai fu by Handel, Venga nel nostro
coro by Salieri and Dona Nobis Pacem by Mozart were included (click here to view the full program). The program was opened with the American song Let there be Peace on Earth,
which has become a calling card of the United Nations Choirs both in New York and Geneva.
The choir conductor is Kirsty Griffiths, an experienced conductor and an opera singer. The choir
performed several a capella pieces, the rest were accompanied by pianists Wolfgang Schutt and Vyonnie-Amor
Lee.
Here is a video clip of excerpts from the Choir's performance.
The WHO staff and guests atending the International Women’s Day celebration warmly greeted the
performance.
